Every dental insurance plan is a bit different from the next, so you should look at your unique policy to find out exactly how it works. In the meantime, we can give you an overview of the coverage provided by most standard PPO insurance plans:
Medical and dental insurance are both designed to help you stay well. However, dental insurance has a strong preventive focus. By covering things like cleanings and exams, it can help you maintain your oral and overall health. Medical insurance, on the other hand, is broader in scope. While it does not cover most basic dental services, it can sometimes be used to help pay for major services that affect oral health, such as some types of surgery.
If you have a PPO dental insurance plan, you can use it at virtually any dental practice, regardless of whether that practice is in-network with your insurer. However, network status can have a small effect on how much you are obligated to pay out of pocket.
If a provider is in-network with your insurance, it means they have a contract that controls prices. This helps both patients and the insurance company to save money. Also, you may find that your coverage is greater at in-network practices. For example, you might receive 80% coverage for fillings in-network but only 70% if you go out of your network.
Here at Smiles by Martin, we are proud to be in-network with the following plans:
Even if we are not in your insurance network, we still invite you to use your PPO benefits in our practice. We can help you to understand how your coverage applies, give you a candidate estimate for your out-of-pocket costs, and file all necessary claims on your behalf. You can still expect to receive excellent care at a fair and manageable price!
