Dental Crowns & Bridges

Dental crowns allow us to preserve even severely decayed or damaged teeth by completely covering the tooth and protecting it from further concerns. We recommend dental crowns for the treatment of tooth decay or trauma and cosmetic flaws that are too advanced for the more conservative restorations like direct bonding. Dental crowns may also be recommended to protect and strengthen a tooth following root canal therapy. A series of dental crowns may be connected together to form a bridge. These prosthetics are used to replace one to three consecutive missing teeth. Crowns on either end of the bridge are attached to healthy teeth to provide support for the replacement tooth. Dental crowns and fixed bridges can also be attached to dental implants to replace missing teeth.

Dental Bonding

Tooth fillings are the most commonly used restorations. They allow us to repair small areas of tooth decay or damage and protect the tooth. Traditionally, metal amalgam was used to repair damaged teeth, but these restorative materials had a number of disadvantages. Amalgams were darkly colored making them immediately noticeable within the smile. Additionally, these filling materials required the removal of healthy tissue to create supportive holds for the restoration, and as the amalgam expanded and contracted over time, it damaged remaining dental structure. Direct bonding offers a cosmetically and restoratively superior solution. We apply the tooth-colored, composite resin material directly to the surface of damaged teeth where it can fill in tiny grooves and pits in damaged teeth creating a strong, natural bond.
